Site made up of Blocks epi 7.5

Hi - we are building a new site and it will be made up entirely of blocks - be they content / graphics / widgets etc.

Just wanted to know if that is standard practise and what the pros and cons are?

Hi,

It's a common approach..

Pros

* Very flexible for editors

* Using tags you can also adjust how the same content should be rendered, for example when it's added to a sidebar compared to on the startpage

Cons

* Some editors are having problems that they can't preview changes in a block how it looks like on the page it has been added to.

* Some editors are having problems to grasp that changes on the current block will affect all places it has been added to.

Also remember that it's quite nice that you can add Pages to ContentAreas as well, for example "why create a teaser about a news article, when you can add the news article directly to the Content Area"

Hi - very little of the content on the site would ever be re-used on more than one page - so is this storing up problems doing it this way?

Sorry to clarify we would not re-use content. Exceptions may be a link to a tool or a link to some content - which could be done as a teaser. But the vast majority of static text, and images would not be re-used at all.

How do you mean with "storing up problems"?

I mean in terms of managing 1,000s of blocks from a usability perspective as you mention it can cause issues.

More that the editor can be confused about the blocks. But if you help them with a good structure with folders (and the "for this page" folder) you can keep them calm
