It is possible to add events before the xform is rendered and when the xform is submitted, so yes, it is possible to add your own CAPTCHA.

I'm trying to do the same thing.

I've added a captcha web control, however this is below the XFormControl in the markup.

I've added a textbox for the user to enter the captcha code they have been shown, but the code behind for the XFormControl isn't giving me access to the textbox ID.

Is there a way to inject the Captcha web control and textbox for the user to enter the captcha code inside the XForm, e.g. add these dynamically to the XForm in the code behind?

You don't need to put the captcha control inside the XForm. Just put it outside and check it from the XForm events.
