Question regarding use of maintenance page during deployment in DXP

Hello,

In the documentation regarding deployment procedures in Episerver Customer-Centric Digital Experience Platform (DXP), there is this explanation regarding the use of the maintenance page:

To avoid data loss or corruption, if you have breaking changes where the old version of the sites' code cannot work with the new version of the database, deploy using maintenance page when you deploy database schema updates or changes to content types . (You can use the Compare database versions tool to compare database versions.) The target site is then taken offline showing the (customizable) maintenance page. If a deployment contains these type of changes, inform Episerver when ordering deployment to production. You should also ensure that either the major or minor version is incremented to trigger the initialization module to make the necessary updates.

I'm wondering what is considered changes to content types. For example, is this considered changes to content types:

  • Adding a new property to a block/page?
  • Modifying an existing property (ex: adding the [CultureSpecific] attribute)?

I opened a ticket with managed services to get clarifications, but was not able to get a clear answer.

Hi OlivierG,

If you change anything on the existing content type or add a new content type you should use the maintenance page.
