Quick Quide to EPiServer Version Numbers

People keep quoting random EPiServer version numbers at me and saying ‘what version is that?’. I can understand why they ask – maybe I’m a little dumb but I can’t find the version numbers in one nice easy place either. So, in the interests of a quick reference and something that Google can ‘eat’…

Version Version Number
CMS 5 R1 5.1.422.4
CMS 5 R1 SP1 5.1.422.122
CMS 5 R1 SP2 5.1.422.256
CMS 5 R1 SP3 5.1.422.267
CMS 5 R2 5.2.375.7
CMS 5 R2 SP1 5.2.375.133
CMS 5 R2 SP2 5.2.375.236
CMS 6 CTP 2 6.0.382.1

I don’t know exactly how the numbering works, but it looks (roughly) as if the first number is major version, second number is release number (0 for CTP, 1 for R1, 2 for R2 etc.), the third number is a major build number linked to the release and the last number is a minor build number linked to the service pack. That’s my guess anyway :)

Thanks for this overview Dan, you´re right - it isn't explained anywhere actually...

this will help a lot. I this should appear under Products>EPiServer CMS along with each version listed. Thanks

The version numbers were actually published before within the matrix over "EPiServer CMS 5 Versions and Relations" if you hover over the version number. But as that did not seem to be clear enough and easy to find we have complemented the matrix with the list of numbers. You find the matrix on the page:

    http://world.episerver.com/Documentation/Categories/Version-Relations/EPiServer-CMS-5-Relations/

All EPiServer CMS download pages now have a notation about the verison number. See for example:

    http://world.episerver.com/en/Download/Items/EPiServer-CMS/Version-5/EPiServer-CMS-5-R2-SP2/

Hope this will make it a bit more easy to find and use.
    Thank you for the feedback.
We are always eager to present the documentation, information and donwloads as efficient for you as possible.

Just a short comment on the EPiServer CMS 6 CTP 2.
This version of EPiServer CMS 6 is not availabe just yet. It will be soon.

Good to know Lena, I've always used the EPiServer CMS 5 Relations link you mentioned here. Even better to see it on the right like that.

Thanks for bringing this up Dan, it's a pain if one can't find info like this easy.

The current downloadable CTP is EPiServer CMS 5.3.223.42. Is this a new 5 (SP3) or is this 6?

Dan, I feel a disturbance in the force.
    You're referencing a pre-release version of CMS 6 CTP2 ;)
The one I use is 6.0.382.1 and believe this is the One. The force is strong with 382.1.

@Graham. 5.3 was a CMS 6 version still using the 5 generation version numbers. We have recently "bumped" to 6.x.

To all: CMS 6 CTP2 is not far now. Any day now, I can _almost_ promise you that...

@Dan, I'll make sure that the deployment center can show the release name for different builds. Can promise we have time to do this in 6.0, but soon after I hope.

Apologies for raising hopes - as Mattias said I was slightly premature in putting the CTP 2 version number on there. It is now corrected and you will be able to hit your 'Download' buttons before long. Honest :)
