Quality of stemming is disappointing

I'm also having a hard time tuning our search queries to get more relevant results. My experience is that when using stemming, hits by compound words often get a higher score than exact hits which is strange. Tried this approach but it's not sufficient I think.

Does anybody else think the logic and quality behind stemming is disappointing? Instead of returning precis and relevant results, on my test site Find returns too many and too unprecise results.
For example, searching for "meta" returns a result for "multimeter". Does this by any count seem relevant? It seems like Episerver has quite a ways to go in terms of improving search quality, IMHO.
