Server Error in / Application. Generic failure

Symptom

The applications fails with the following error:

Server Error in '/' Application.
Generic failure

Solution

This means that there is a problem with the Windows WMI. This could be caused by the files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\Repository being corrupt.

Try to rebuild the files by following the instructions below:

  1. Stop Windows Instrumentation Service.
  2. Remove all files under C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\Repository.
  3. Restart the computer.
