Why do I receive the error message "Cannot install files: The installation failed, and the rollback has been performed" when I install a module on EPiServer CMS 5 SP1 using the EPiServer CMS Manager?

This error occurs on a machine that only has the SP1 assemblies (5.1.422.122) installed in the global assembly cache (GAC) after installing a module that references EPiServer CMS 5 assemblies (5.1.422.4). This is the case with the Demo Templates module that was recently published on episerver.com.
The work-around for this is to force the assemblies to be added to the GAC by installing an EPiServer CMS 5 R1 site. The site can be deleted immediately as you are only interested in the GAC entries. It should now be possible to install the module without any problem.
